SensesWA is a leading not-for-profit organisation that has been providing disability support services to people of all ages throughout Western Australia for over 125 years. SensesWA endeavours to support and empower people living with disability to achieve their potential and do the things they love, which is why the number of individuals choosing SensesWA as their service provider is growing every day! 

At SensesWA, we focus on recruiting the right people and offering targeted training so we can seamlessly match a person with a disability with the right support worker to engage in new experiences, establish community connections, develop independent living skills and live a fulfilling life.

Due to this growth, we are currently looking to recruit for permanent part-time Support Worker positions throughout the wider Wheatbelt area, particularly in York and Northam.

To be successful in this role, you must:

  • Be comfortable and confident with working with a diverse range of ages, disabilities and behaviours;
  • Have a genuine passion and commitment to making a difference to the lives of people with disability;
  • Have a minimum 1-year experience working within a residential care setting and/or experience working in an educational setting i.e. as a teacher's aide or similar;
  • Have a high level of resilience and experience working with people who may present with difficult and challenging behaviours;
  • Possess a high level of trust, honesty and integrity and be able to maintain a professional relationship with all participants;
  • Be computer and mobile phone savvy in order to access work emails and web based applications such as rosters, case notes and incident reports;
  • Have a current ‘Provide First Aid’ certificate (or be willing to obtain);
  • Hold a current Working With Children check (or be willing to obtain);  
  • Hold a current national police clearance (completed within the last six months); and
  • Have a current Full Australian Driver’s License and a comprehensibly insured vehicle.

Essential: An ability and willingness to participate and support people in a range of social and leisure activities.
Essential: An ability and willingness to provide personal care to people who need it including support with dressing and toileting.
Essential: An ability and willingness to work with people who may present staff with difficult and challenging situations.
Essential: An ability to work as part of a team.
Essential: An ability to work using your own initiative.
Essential: An understanding of the needs of vulnerable people for example children, adults, older people or people with a disability.
Essential: An understanding of Senses Australia’s values of integrity, respect, innovation and excellence and a willingness to promote them.
Essential: Completed English study to Year 9 or equivalent.
Essential: Completed Maths/Numeracy study to Year 9 or equivalent.
Essential: Hold a current A or E Class Australian Drivers Licence.
Essential: An ability to use a computer and or phone to access emails, systems relevant to organization and the internet.
Desirable: Previous experience working with a person with a disability.
Desirable: Hold Certificate III in Disability Care.
